United Wellness Center’s integrated approach to health and wellness includes functional medicine. Functional medicine is a patient-centered, complementary branch of medicine that goes beyond a single treatment for a single diagnosis. Instead, it focuses on a balance of factors (e.g. body composition, medical history, genetics, lifestyle and physical environment) to promote healing and well being. Dr. Oxenrider utilizes several noninvasive and minimally invasive tests to help assess patient health. This combination of tests is called a functional medicine assessment (FMA). For more information, please review Achieve Your Optimal Health: A Guide to Functional Medicine Assessments.
United Wellness Center is one of only a few Indiana healthcare providers offering this emerging field of medicine. Our personalized functional medicine treatment plans focus on nutrition, tailored exercise regimens, the removal of allergens and toxins, and supplementation of pharmaceutical grade vitamins, minerals and herbs in the body. Chiropractic patients that seek functional medicine also see faster recovery times and improved overall health and wellness.

FirstLine Therapy® and Weight Loss
The problem with most popular weight loss programs is that they focus on weight loss alone, resulting in a vicious cycle of up and down weight loss and weight gain. Many people who go on a diet end up gaining back the weight they lost plus a few extra pounds they never wanted or needed. Little or no emphasis is placed on healthy body composition (fat-to-lean muscle ratio), even though the focus on lean muscle allows your body to burn fat and calories even when you are not actively exercising. Healthy body composition is widely recognized as being more crucial to long-term success than just dropping pounds.
More than anything else, achieving a healthy body composition and long-term health through FirstLine Therapy® is about making choices. Even small daily adjustments can lead to big improvements. These changes will not happen over night, in fact most require a 12 week program, although it may be longer depending on the patient's needs and goals. Research shows that many people will not accomplish their goals without a dedicated coach and real life strategies that are customized to their individual needs and lifestyle. That is why United Wellness Center, along with FirstLine Therapy®, is here to be your coach with a program customized specifically for you.

Pro-Adjuster
The Pro-Adjuster is the most advanced Chiropractic analysis and treatment instrument in existence today. Utilizing a precise oscillating force with uninterrupted motion, the Pro-Adjuster is able to increase the mobility of the spinal segments, muscle tissue, and joints, by reducing or enabling motion in the abnormal areas. In other words, the Pro-Adjuster is "unsticking" the joint and releasing tension in the muscle tissue. 95% of our patients receive and prefer this painless advanced treatment over traditional Chiropractic methods.

Spinal Decompression Therapy
United Wellness Center offers spinal decompression therapy. This leading edge therapy uses state-of-the-art technology to treat herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, and chronic lower back and leg pain without the use and risks associated with anesthetics or back surgery. This noninvasive therapy relieves lumbar pressure by gradually stretching focused areas of the spine and decompressing discs. As discs are decompressed, fluids and nutrients re-enter the discs, swelling is reduced, and pressure is relieved. Spinal decompression therapy offers a convenient alternative to surgery, and pain relief can be seen in a matter of days.
Chiropractic Services
We employ a wide range of established chiropractic techniques. Diversified, extremity adjustments, Thompson drop technique, ArthroStim, and Gonsted are available to get you well. These techniques utilized by Dr. Oxenrider allow him to treat each patient differently based on his or her specific needs. However, with the introduction of the Pro-Adjuster, 95% of our patients receive and prefer this painless advanced treatment method.
Hypertension: Pain in the Neck - New study, covered by ABC News, suggests realigning the spine could lower blood pressure.
Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is a core recovery component to any musculoskeletal injury. United Wellness Center offers both passive and active rehabilitation. Passive rehabilitation is designed to relieve pain and reduce swelling with the use of adjustments, ice therapies, myofascial release, Kinesio tape, advanced four level cold laser therapy and more. Active rehabilitation consists of therapeutic exercises performed at the Center and at home to strengthen your muscles, initiate neurological reflexes, and improve core stability, postural alignment, flexibility and range of motion. Regardless of the type of rehabilitation used, each rehab program is tailored to facilitate healing and insure our patients are less likely to suffer re-injuries or relapses.

Massage Therapy
Combined with chiropractic care, massage therapy provides a more complete and effective road to recovery and overall health maintenance. Therapeutic massage uses various hand techniques such as kneading, tapping, compression, rocking and controlled pressure. It can help relieve chronic stress and muscle tension, maintain proper alignment, and improve circulation and digestion. United Wellness Center is pleased to offer licensed massage therapists.

Types of Care
Acute Care
This is a treatment plan with no long term goal other than pain relief. Acute Care is not designed or intended to provide correction to the underlying problems. If your goal is pain relief only (without drugs) and you have no long term health goals then this care is for you. The typical Acute Care treatment ranges from seven to twelve treatments.
Acute Care treatments may consist of one or more of the following: chiropractic adjustments, decompression treatments, muscle therapy, kinesoptape or natural anti inflammatory supplementation. This type of care is typically chosen less than 2% of the time in our clinic.

Correction Care
This treatment plan if for those with long term health and life goals. The typical patient who chooses this option wants a active, pain free quality of life for years to come. They are looking to enjoy the retirement they have been working their entire lives to enjoy. They want to enjoy long walks, golfing, gardening, traveling, time with there grandchildren and many other fun loving activities. Corrective care is designed to re energize your body so it can perform like a high performance machine again.
Corrective Care treatments consist of a combination of the following treatments depending on your specific finding: painless computer controlled neurospinal alignment, muscle therapy, massage therapy, decompression, neromuscular re education, stretching and exercise instructions.
Wellness Care
Simply put this treatment is designed to completely change your life. Wellness care focuses on teaching you how to EAT well, THINK well, and MOVE well. People who chose wellness care want all the benefits of correction and more. They want the best life has to offer and are willing to work for it. If you chose this care get ready to feel great again!

EAT well begins with a functional medicine assessment, First Line Therapy testing, or both depending on your condition. It includes urine and saliva analysis to determine the essential nutrients your body really needs, no more guessing on what foods to eat and supplementation you need. We will tell you exactly what you need following your functional medicine testing.
THINK well teaches you how to change your negative and destructive thought patterns. Your mind is a power muscle if it is trained right. You will learn how to retrain your thoughts to inhibit the stress response.
MOVE well is designed to correct movement deficiencies and postural toxicities. Lack of movement or poor movement patterns will alter normal (homeostatic) genetic (phenotypic) expression. Simply put this means your genes are designed to move and any movement under a sufficient level for homeostasis will result in a chronic stress response and increase your risk for “diseases of lifestyle.”
