Initial Consultation

Not only will this make your initial visit more efficient from a time standpoint, but this also gives us an opportunity to get to know you better. Your first visit with the doctor will begin with an initial review of your medical history and current health condition. We will also spend time discussing your personal health goals. This important step helps us to define a custom tailored treatment plan that best meets your needs.

We will then conduct a physical exam to evaluate the nature of your problem. This exam will evaluate range of motion, muscle strength, sensory deficits, musculoskeletal alignment and spinal subluxations. While this exam is thorough, patients normally find it to be quick and painless.

Based on the findings of the physical exam, we may require that an x-ray of your spine be taken during your initial consultation. An x-ray helps us to see a more complete picture of your spine to develop the most effective course of treatment. X-rays may not be required for patients who have had x-rays taken for the same condition within the last six months.

Treatment

After your initial consultation we will evaluate your information and study the results. We will report our findings and discuss an effective treatment plan that best matches your health goals. Normally, your treatment plan will include a program of chiropractic adjustments and active therapy. Your treatment plan may also include cold laser treatments, decompression therapy, or recommendations affecting nutrition, exercise or daily activity.

The number of chiropractic visits we recommend in your treatment plan will vary depending on your goals, health and condition. During each visit we will monitor your health and healing process and modify your treatment plan accordingly. Factors affecting healing include severity of condition, age, nutrition, activity level and attitude. Many patients experience pain relief within a few sessions and recovery within a few months. However, many of our chiropractic patients elect to have regular adjustments as part of a preventive care regimen or to prevent relapse.

For some patients we may determine that your condition may not be helped with the use of chiropractic. For these individuals, we will recommend consultations with additional practitioners and facilitate appropriate referrals.

United Wellness Center also offers functional medicine for patients seeking options to enhance athletic performance or improve conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple chemical sensitivity, weight loss/altered body composition, insulin resistance or cardiovascular disease. Functional medicine is a science-based approach to care that is focused on determining the causes of your condition, rather than treating a specific symptom. For patients interested in functional medicine, we conduct tests to analyze your biochemistry and body composition. Dr. Oxenrider utilizes several noninvasive and minimally invasive tests to help assess patient health. This combination of tests is called a functional medicine assessment (FMA). We then develop personalized treatment plans that balance genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. Our functional medicine treatment plans focus on nutrition and exercise, the removal of allergens and toxins, and supplementation of pharmaceutical grade vitamins, minerals and herbs in the body to improve overall health. Like chiropractic, we will carefully monitor your health throughout treatment and modify the treatment plan to best meet your needs.
